Chipwrecked Shipmunks

Alright! So. Hopefully brevity shall be my friend this time as we wrap up the second of the Pi-Rats episodes that were released onto DVD. While out testing the new Ranger Boat, Gadget loses her focus and the Rescue Rangers wind up crashing on a deserted island. After crashing, the gang waits out three weeks for a rescue before they decide to actually try building a new boat to simply save themselves with. Dale and Monty of course don't really want to work, and thus 'search for supplies' while instead they explore the island and discover a treasure map which only fuels their laziness even more and leads them to wanting to find the treasure. The Pi-Rats of course show up rather quickly, which makes things difficult as Dale and Monty sabotage the newly finished boat so that they can try to hoard as much treasure for themselves as possible. The Pir-Rats discover that their treasure is being looted and suspect all of the Rangers, taking Chip and Gadget prisoner in the process while Dale and Monty fight over the treasure. In the end though, the pair saves their friends and everyone makes it to a cave just before a bad hurricane hits. For whatever reason, the Pi-Rats make peace with the Rangers and help them rebuild their boat using some treasure as the episode ends. This is....probably not a great episode since it highlights Dale and Monterey being a couple of greedy bastards for the entire episode and only fuels my dislike of Dale overall even more. Not the greatest episode to watch, especially compared to the series premier.

Piratsy Under the Seas - Rescue Rangers

A small note, this is actually Thursdays viewing, but the post itself is going up a bit late :) Rescue Rangers away! Chip an' Dale are pitted up against a band of cheese thirsty Pirats in this episode. While lugging garbage out to the bins, Dale slips inside just as the garbage man comes to take the trash away. Chip however notices this and rushes to get the rest of the Rangers so that they can rescue Dale from the barge loaded with garbage. While attempting to rescue him, Chip and Dale are captured by a group of unknown people who move through the water in a makeshift ship with a skull and crossbones flag. While underwater, Chip and Dale try to escape, though Billy the Squid chases after them and forces them to take shelter in a sunken ship where they meet up with the Pi-Rats. The Pi-Rats way of life begins to appeal to Dale who is fed up with all the work he has to do back home and quickly takes to their ways. The Pi-Rates choose him to lead the treasure hunt, where upon discovering it they tell Chip and Dale that they can no longer leave since they have seen it. Meanwhile, Gadget and the others are working to follow after their friends so that they can rescue them. They too however are chased by Billy the Squid, though Gadget soon disposes of him. She decides to have Monterey and Zipper go find their friends while she stays behind in the treasure room, where they landed, and works to build a new submarine for them to escape in. Monty and Zipper soon find the two chipmunks and after a successful disguise, manages to free the now caged Chip and Dale by pretending to be the old captain of the Pi-Rats. However, just as they are about to escape with Gadget, the old cabin boy discovers that the disguise is fake and a chase ensues. Ultimately, thanks to Gadget's brain, and Chip and Dale's efforts they defeat Billy the Squid and managed to unsink the ship by blowing the treasure out of the cannons. All in all this is a review that rambled quite longly for an episode that's probably only pretty average. >.< With that said let's move on to today's actual episode in the following post where the Pi-Rats return....

Polly Wants A Treasure

Spin it! Ahhhh, Talespin how I love thee. I mean. YAR me hearties! This be an adventure that only pirates can achieve! We be finding three main things in this here episode that make pirates great. Tricky traps in a cave, green parrots that talk and lots o' booty. When Baloo's attempt to make some quick cash doesn't quite workout, he winds up buying the sea chest of the old pirate Captain Onetoomany which contains the parrot Ignatz. Of course, Don Karnage is after the old chest and sends two of his crew, Dumptruck and Mad Dog to wreck Baloo's cargo in the search for it. However, they leave behind Ignatz not realizing that he is the map to Captain Onetoomany's treasure. Baloo, over the course of the episode takes a large disliking to the feathery stowaway until he is forced to work together with the bird when Don Karnage takes Kit prisoner. In the end, the treasure remains lost thanks to Baloo's bumbling accident when he releases a trap, though everyone makes it out unharmed. As far as Don Karnage episodes go, this might well be a middling one though it is still a lot of fun to watch. I do think though that nothing would be able to top his first appearance in the Plunder and Lightning series premier.

The Real Ghostbusters - Sea Fright

Yaaaar! It be Pirate Week! Due to time constraints ye be getting an episode review this time around. This episode of the Real Ghostbusters is one that I remember well from my childhood having taped it off of the tv onto a vhs one day. Due to this, it is one of the few episodes from this series I remember quite well and thus enjoy a fair bit due to the larger exposure to it. Also, it has pirates so how could you not enjoy this? After their treasure is found and placed in a maritime museum, Captain Jack Higgins and his skeletal pirate crew invade New York City on their pirate ship and promptly begin to plunder it before striking out to find their stolen doubloons. The Ghostbusters however are on the job and after a few encounters with the wily pirates, including an attempted ambush, finally manage to trap them. This episode was actually a bit fun because the pirates themselves seemed to provide a challenge to the heroes, managing to get the better of them a couple times before they were finally subdued. Watching the pirates interact with each other, and with the modern day city was rather fun including a part where two of the skeletal ghosts mistake mannequins for real women who they assume are not afraid of them. All in all this is an enjoyable episode to a great series.

TMNT - Shredder Strikes Back

Decided to change it up a bit, tonight we're going to take a look at Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The following four episodes are from one of the newer versions of the gang and aired on Fox.

The King:

This episode takes place partway into the season and has the turtles living in April's apartment, which leads to a bit of craziness. The episode itself follows Donatello as he meets an artist who lives in the basement apartment. The artist is named Kirby, a reference to the big comic artist, and he appears to have acquired a crystal that allows whatever he draws to come to life for a short time. The two bond a bit and find that a portal Kirby drew allows them to and visit a different dimension, which is when things start to get even more crazy as they have to fight to save a town from the evil monsters that the artist had drawn in his spare time.

Shredder Strikes Back - 2 Parter:

This makes up the bulk of the episodes viewed tonight and centers around Shredder as he begins to seek revenge on the turtles for defeating him. The first episode is rather action packed as we follow Leonardo on a training run and is attacked by the Foot Ninjas, the Tech Foot and the all new Foot Elite. While he works to defend himself we often switch back to the apartment where April and the others are simply enjoying a lazy afternoon watching TV and having breakfast. The peace ends, as does the episode, when Leonardo is thrown through the window unconscious.

Part two continues the action as the Shredder sends his forces in to attack the remaining turtles while they are still shocked at what happened. Against rather overwhelming odds, the turtles and Master Splinter fight against the Foot clan as they try to escape the apartment building. Soon though, the villain Hun joins in along with Shredder himself as they raise the stakes. The turtles though find help as Casey arrives just in time to help even the odds up barely. The episode ends with our heroes locked up as the Antique Shop/Apartment are left burning by the Shredder.

Tales of Leo:

Though it's not quite a "part 3" this episode still follows up on the cliffhanger explosion that occurred at the end of the previous, 'Shredder Strikes Back Part 2' and shows how our heroes managed to barely escape. Thought to be dead by Shredder, the turtles retreat with their injured brother to Casey's grandmother's house out in the country. The rest of the episode shows the gang telling the unconscious Leonardo his early adventures and use the stories to help guide him back to them.

It's a bit hard to really say much about the series as a whole, but it does look rather worth a look for any Ninja Turtle fan. The Shredder two-parter definitely stands out as a solid couple of episodes with plenty of ninja action while still moving the story along instead of being a ' Bad guy of the week' type of deal. Perhaps the weaker episode for me is the 'Tales of Leo' since I've never really been too fond of flashback episodes just because of how it generally only acts as filler and slows things down. However, the episode does act as a good breather after the full on fighting seen in the previous couple of episodes and helps to set things up I imagine for what's to come in future episodes.

Winnie the Pooh: Everything's Coming Up Roses

This review shall go over four episodes from "The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh." One small thing to note about this VHS is that it opens with my favorite opening for the Walt Disney VHS'. This of course gives it some extra Awesome points. ;)

First up is 'Eeyi, Eeyi, Eeyore' in which our donkey friend is given a seed by Rabbit who claims it's worthless and won't grow. Pooh and Tigger decide to lend a hand by disguising poor Piglet as a flower to be helpful which leads to Rabbit handing over his garden to Eeyore thinking that he is a better gardener.

Following this episode is 'My Hero' where Piglet saves Tigger from a puddle and the bouncy tiger decides to become Piglet's servant to repay him. However our tiny hero finds that Tigger is just a bit -too- helpful and tries to turn the tables so that they can be even.

"Honey For A Bunny" is perhaps my favorite of the episodes. One day Rabbit decides to be rid of his bookend bunny who is missing it's mate. After a series of trading and gifting the bookend, Rabbit finds it at Pooh's house and mistakes it for the missing mate. He strikes a deal to trade the bunny for five jars of hunny though finds he's one jar short. This leads to Tigger helping out as the duo tries to get that last jar of hunny, only to find out in the end he did all that work for his original bookend.

Our last episode/segment is 'Owl Feathers' where the Hundred Acre Woods seems to have a lot of feathers floating about. Rabbit, Tigger, Pooh and a magician in-training Piglet decide to investigate and seem to feel that the feathers belong to Owl, (though Tigger claims it's horse feathers), and Rabbit claims that Owl is going bald. This causes poor Owl to become a bit depressed and finds he can't fly anymore even though it's all in his head and prompts Piglet to jump in to help with a little bit of 'magic.'

All four episodes are rather fun, especially for those who love the show and/or the characters themselves. Not all the gang appears though, Roo only pops up for one episode and sets off the chain of tradsies in 'Hunny For A Bunny' and Kanga is missing completely. Also not around is Christopher Robin for the large part of these and only shows up at the end of 'Owl Feathers.'

The animation is rather standard for the time it was released, and even though it is a bit outdated I find that I actually prefer it compared to some of the animated shows on t.v today even if they are being made with more updated technology. Our opening song is bouncy, enjoyable and just as memorable as the Ducktales or Darkwing Duck themes. :)

100th Post! 10 Top 10 Countdowns.

Just to start off, this will be a hell of a long post. Due to this, I will attempt to be brief in each countdown and will most likely go into further detail as we meet each character, episode or moment in future reviews and character profiles.

Top 10 Batman Villains:

Going into this list, I thought of a few things that would influence my choices. What they've done, their visual appearance and their one biggest "victory" or accomplishment. All this is based off the Batman The Animated series and not other incarnations.

10) Bane

9) Mad Hatter

8) The Riddler

7) Two-Face

6) Mr. Freeze

5) Catwoman

4) Harley Quinn

3) Poison Ivy

2) Scarecrow

1) The Joker

Top 10 Looney Tunes Characters:

A very common factor for characters you will find, is that visual appearance can play a role in my choices. For these characters it's not a major deciding factor, but what is one is the overall character, what they do in their shorts and just how funny I find them.

10) Sam Sheepdog

9) Gossamer

8) Count Blood Count

7) Tweety Bird

6) Witch Hazel

5) Sylvester

4) Bugs Bunny

3) Pepe Le Pew

2) Wile. E Coyote

1) Marvin Martian

Top 10 Animated Movies (Non-Disney, in my collection):

Alrighty. First off, nothing from Disney appears here. Secondly there are at least three movies that should be on this list but aren't, simply because I am going by what I own. If I didn't limit it that way I could sit here all night trying to whittle my list to just 10. Perhaps in time I will be able to separate the anime entries into their own list and update this one.

10) Happily Ever After

9) All Dogs Go To Heaven

8) Fern Gully

7) G.I Joe: The Movie

6) Digimon the Movie

5) Batman Mask of the Phantasm

4) Anastasia

3) Cardcaptors the Movie

2) Secret of NIMH

1) Spirited Away

Top 10 Ghostbusters Ghosts:

The Real Ghostbusters ghosts only. Ones from the movies, while deserving of spots here will perhaps make appearances on future countdowns. Visual appearance, the ghosts powers and just how much of a match they are for the Ghostbusters are all factors in my choices.

10) Stay Puft Marshmellow Man

9) The Dark Entity

8) Marduk

7) Captain Jack Higgins

6) Sandman

5) Boogieman

4) Lord Kildarby and the Bird of Kildarby

3) Big Boo

2) Rall

1) Samhain

Top 10 Darkwing Duck Villains:

Let's get dangerous! Darkwing Duck's villains are rather fun in the way that they quite often are based off of comic book villains, whether it's the obvious Bushroot/Poison Ivy or the perhaps more obscure Moliarty/Mole Man reference these villains are just a lot of fun. Most of these villains though, are a bit hard to take too seriously, though that looks like it's changing with the Darkwing Duck comic series.

10) Moliarty

9) Tauras Bulba

8) Liquidator

7) Tuskernini

6) Bushroot

5) Megavolt

4) Splatter Phoenix

3) Steelbeak

2) Negaduck

1) Quackerjack and Mr. Banana Brain

Top 10 Scooby-Doo Villains: Seasons 1 and 2 of Scooby-Doo Where Are You?

Yes, yes even though the series was a bit laughable and fairly corny, Scooby-Doo still had some rather unique villains. There are though, a few clunker villains who were nothing more than a cliche ghost. But these villains are, in my opinion, among the more visually unique ones even if it turned out to be someone in a mask each time.

10) Werewolf Ghost

9) Black Knight

8) Miner 49er

7) Elias Kingston

6) Creeper

5) Redbeard

4) Mr. Hyde

3) Snow Ghost

2) Zen Tuo

1) Ghost Clown

Top 10 Movie Monsters Non-Human:

Movie monsters! Who doesn't love a good movie monster? Now, in the title what I mean by human is that there won't be Vampires, Werewolves or Zombies found here. Humanoid ones though can be found here and there in the list.

10) Creature from the Black Lagoon

9) Graboids

8) The Thing

7) King Kong

6) Godzilla

5) Jaws

4) Critters

3) Gremlins

2) Predator

1) Aliens

Top 10 Scary Movie Animals:

The majority of the animals found here are living, breathing animals even if most aren't ones we are likely to encounter on a daily basis. Since dinosaurs do technically classify as animals they have been included in this list, but ones such as dragons with purple spots will obviously not be present. One day though a "Fantasy" oriented list may appear.

10) Grizzly: Grizzly

9) The Birds: Birds

8) Piranhas - Piranha

7) Lake Placid: Crocodile

6) Anaconda - Anaconda

5) Jurassic Park: Velociraptors

4) Jurassic Park: Dilophosauras

3) Arachnophobia: Spiders

2) Jaws: Great White Shark

1) Cujo: Saint Bernard

Disney Villain Songs:

Disney! The main rule of thumb for me when it came to this list was if it's one that was memorable enough to me. Some things that factored into this was the scene itself where this takes place, was it visually interesting? Did it help the story along?

10) The Mob Song: Beauty and the Beast

9) Heffalumps and Woozles: Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh

8) World's Greatest Criminal Mastermind: Great Mouse Detective

7) Mother Knows Best: Tangled

6) Be Prepared: Lion King

5) Kidnap the Sandy Claws: Nightmare Before Christmas

4) Gaston: Beauty and the Beast

3) I've Got Friends on the Other Side: Princess and the Frog

2) Hellfire: Hunchback Of Notre Dame

1) Poor Unfortunate Souls: The Little Mermaid

Top 10 Saddest Moments in Disney and Pixar:

Disney is, despite being family friendly, quite good at providing the audience with scenes that are just downright depressing. So of course I had to compile a list of the ten saddest moments in the animated canon and Pixar! Get your kleenex ready or just skip over this list if you'd prefer to stay happy :)

10) Toy Story 2: When She Loved Me (song)

9) UP: Married Life Montage

8) Mickey's Christmas Carol: Bob Crachit in the graveyard

7) Brother Bear: Kenai telling Koda the truth.

6) Tarzan: Kala losing her baby in the opening.

5) Dumbo: Baby of Mine (song)

4) The Lion King: Mufasa's Death

3) Toy Story 3: The ending.

2) Bambi: Bambi's mom getting shot.

1) Snow White: Snow White's funeral/the Dwarf's vigil.

This concludes our 100th post and our 10 Top 10's. I hope you enjoyed scanning through the list, please feel free to drop a comment on what you liked (or didn't like) about each list or even supply a list of your own! See something I missed? Let me know and I'll be happy to point out why I may not have added it to a list.

Justice League: Justice on Trial Part 2

When a US submarine goes down in Atlantean territory, the Justice League moves in to help though the surface worlds arrival causes Aquaman to resurface. He informs the heroes that they can take the people off the sub, but must leave it and the weapons aboard behind.

When Aquaman goes to visit the surface world conference, a hired assassin fires a bazooka at the man, critically injuring him. The Justice League comes to his aid as they work to save the man's life and capture the man, Deadshot, forcing him to reveal who it was that hired him.

Believing their leader to be injured, if not dead, Atlantis is taken over by Aquaman's brother Orm. After a quick recovery, both Aquaman and his wife are taken prisoner by the evil brother as he declares that he will destroy the surface world. However, the League comes to the rescue again as they work with Aquaman to stop Orm from using a thermal machine at the Arctic Circle which could flood the world.

Probably one of the better early two-parters, "The Enemy Below" introduces Aquaman and helps to set up his character for his later appearances in both the first two seasons and again in Unlimited. The animation is still pretty good, and we are still in the process of establishing the universe and our heroes place in it.

Ultraman Episodes 23 - 25

Ultraman! Ultraman! Here he comes across the sky! *Cue the corny intro theme and it's trippy background*

Continuing along with the last handful of episodes from Ultraman, we discover a science base underwater and a mystery comet! Our first episode "My Home Is Earth" largely concerns a missing astronaut who has mutated into a huge monster and has become obsessed with getting his revenge on humanity for what was done to him. This...is probably one of the better episodes in my opinion, since it isn't just a random monster of the day but someone who was once human and went through some changes to become what he is today.

The Underwater Science Base follows the team as they investigate the destruction of support lines that connect a newly constructed underwater base to the surface. Upon arriving they engage against a very angry monster with a drill like beak.

Our final episode of the night is "Mystery Comet Tsuiphon." When a comet races past Earth it's radiation that is emitted might cause hydrogen bombs to explode. The team races to the Japanese Alps where they know a monster lives that has swallowed a warhead and remains in hiding. Though upon arrival they discover not one monster, but three that are locked in a furious battle.

Santa Claus Is Coming To Town

How did Santa get his red suit? Where did his name come from? Why does he come down our chimney? These questions and more are answered as we explore Santa's history in this Rankin Bass special.

Long ago there was a small baby simply named Claus and is found by Grimbsy. The child is quickly brought fort to the man in charge of the town , the Burgermeister who sends the baby away. Grimbsy however, loses Claus when a strange wind carries him off to the woods where the animals take him to be taken in by the elves. It's almost like a scene out of Snow White, the lost child being befriended by animals and coming to live with a group of small people. However, unlike Snow White the animals teach Claus many things such as how to laugh, play and climb trees. The elves of course teach him how to make toys, follow the stars among other things.

As time passes Claus is given the name Kris and tells the elves (whose last name is Kringle) that he will take their unused toys they make to the children in the nearby town. While travelling through he befriends a small penguin named Topper and makes a temporary enemy out of the Winter Warlock. As he arrives, Kris finds out from the school children and their teacher, Jessica, that the Burgermeister has outlawed toys.

What follows is Kris becoming a wanted man for bringing toys to the children and breaking the silly law that was put into place. He tries many times over the next while to bring them the toys in various fashions and explains why Santa comes down the chimney and puts toys in our stockings. Through all this he even befriends the Winter Warlock whose icy heart melts away and marries Jessica who becomes Mrs. Claus.

Santa Claus is Coming To Town is a great Rankin Bass short and a staple to any Christmas viewing log. It's rather enjoyable getting to see how Santa became who he is and why he does things the way that he does. The short though does have a couple odd spots here and there such as Jessica's rather trippy song and the lack of explanation on how Kris and the other Kringles escape from behind bars. Despite these it is still a great show to watch and the pros far outweigh the cons.

A Very Supernatural Christmas

It seems there are quite a few odd combinations this week for Christmas episodes. Starting off with X-Men before moving along to Ghostbusters and now we find Supernatural takes a stab at the holiday. Literally.

Once people start to go missing around the holidays, Sam and Dean begin to investigate the likely chance that an evil Santa is on the loose and punishing those on the Naughty list. After a long series of trekking for clues, the brothers find that both homes attacked have the same wreath in them made of Meadowsweet. Further investigating leads them to Madge and Edward Carrigan who appear to be the perfect suburban couple. Of course, they are no regular couple and are in fact pagan gods who as they put it, assimilated over the years. Returning later that night, armed with evergreen stakes the Winchester brothers take on the pagan gods after a small setback of being captured.

A Supernatural Christmas is just short of a horror movie based around Christmas time, largely due to it's shorter run time. However it still falls into the Christmas category and perhaps deserves it's place a bit more than some of the other shows watched thus far. One thing I rather enjoyed was the character of Madge who reminded me a bit of Kathy Bates in Misery. It was also rather interesting to see a bit of more obscure lore based around the holiday season. Perhaps not quite a staple in the viewing log, it's still fun to watch even if it does not embrace the Christmas season quite as fully as the other specials.

X-Mas Marks the Spot

Ghostbusters and Christmas, despite sounding like an odd combination actually works out rather well especially when it works in the elements of "A Christmas Carol"

The Ghostbusters, while driving out and about are sucked through a time hole and wind up back in the days of Ebeneezer Scrooge. Busting in at the shouts of ghosts, our heroes accidentally capture the three ghosts, not quite realizing what they are doing or the way it will affect things. Upon arriving back in present day they find that Christmas is no more thanks to Scrooge who never learnt his lesson.

While Egon dives into the machine that houses the ghosts to try and rescue the Christmas Ghosts, Peter, Raye and Winston go back in time to try do what they can to teach Scrooge his lesson. This of course largely means Peter dressing in a disguise as he attempts to do the Ghost of Christmas Pasts job and actually learns a lesson from it all himself. One highlight of this episode is actually getting to see inside the realm where all the stored ghosts are kept, including getting cameos from various ghosts already caught most notably Samhain. Definitely worth looking into for any casual Ghostbusters or Holiday fan.

Have Yourself A Morlock Little X-Mas

X-Men and Christmas, not always a great combination.

The episode opens to some rather pitiful singing as Rogue, Cyclops and Jubilee decorate a rather enormous Christmas tree and discuss how this is her first year having Christmas with the X-Men. Meanwhile, Jean and Gambit fight in the kitchen over cooking the dinner for tonight. Deciding to go and do some last minute shopping, Jubilee, Storm and Wolverine head out to the mall for a while but run into some trouble when mutants steal ambulance supplies.

After chasing the thieves down, Storm discovers that one of the Morlock's (tunnel dwelling mutants), Leech, has fallen seriously ill. Feeling rather guilty that she's failed them as a leader, Storm and the others proceed to do all they can to pull off a miracle and save him despite the mistrust one mutant, Callisto, shows towards Storm.

The entire episode plays out like a rather bad soap opera and drags down both the X-Men and Christmas shows with it. Hardcore fans might find more enjoyment here than others.

Jolly Molly Christmas

Not one to be left out of spreading holiday cheer, Talespin followed in other Disney shows footsteps and produced it's own Christmas episode, Jolly Molly Christmas.

Much like last night's Goofy short from "Once Upon A Christmas" the episode largely deals with whether or not Santa is real. Instead of Max and Goofy though, we have Molly and Baloo who assures her that Santa is real. Not quite sure, Molly is whisked off to Louie's bar which has been transformed into a rather makeshift North Pole. The real kicker is when Louie himself falls down the chimney dressed as Santa.

Of course, being a Talespin episode there needs to be at least one good air fight. Don Karnage and his pirate crew help out with this, spending a few minutes slowing Baloo down as he tries to make it snow with...soap suds.

When in doubt, watch Goofy and Max in Once Upon A Christmas, since they handle things a lot better. As for Talespin episodes in general, there are a lot more entertaining ones such as the five part series opener.

A Very Glee Christmas

Taking a slight deviation from my usual plan, tonight I decided to review the newest episode of Glee.

I found that this episode was fairly enjoyable, the songs were well performed and I rather enjoyed getting to hear Sue sing the song "You're A Mean One, Mister Grinch" as she reenacts the scene of stealing the tree and ornaments.

During this episode Artie, who is confined to a wheelchair, discovers that his girlfriend Brittany still believes in Santa Claus. After the initial shock he finds that it's best to just humor her and let his girlfriend get to enjoy the magic of still believing for one more year. Rachel does her very best to try and win back Finn after he chooses to break up with her, though is not very successful and only winds up pushing him away a bit further.

Sue Sylvester rigs the Secret Santa among the staff of the school so that she gets all of the presents which prompts Will, Emma and Coach Beiste to work together at setting things right. The New Directions glee club also struggles with being the misfits of the school as more slushies to the face resume, and are even chased from the classroom they go caroling to.

It defiantly helps to have at least a bit of back history on the characters and how their relationships are with each other, so this episode (and review) are probably going to be rather confusing when viewed on it's own. However, if you don't mind having to puzzle things out, this episode is a rather nice holiday show. A highlight is how Sue, her assistant Becky and Brittany act out bits of The Grinch, portraying The Grinch, Max and Cindy Lou Who respectively.

It's A Wonderful Leaf

Darkwing Duck and Christmas. Can it get any better to us hardcore Darkwing fans?

Just to get it out of the way, I'm a huge Darkwing fan and am really glad Disney actually put out two sets of episodes for the show. However, until I get around to reviewing the rest of the series let's take a look at "It's A Wonderful Leaf"

It's Christmas time in Saint Canard and the mall shoppers in a frenzy. Across the way we find Drake Mallard as he dutifully protects the presents under the tree from his enthusiastic daughter, Gosalyn in her attempts to open them early. However, not all is well in the city as the villainous Bushroot has decided to be a Grinch and ruin things for everyone. Starting out small, he decides to spread some negative vibes and runs amok in the mall as he gets the shoppers mad at each other.

Drake soon arrives and decides that this is a job for....Santa Claus! Wait, wrong outfit. Darkwing Duck! Going on the prowl, Darkwing and Launchpad set out to stop Bushroots scheme "Operation Bahumbug" as he brings to life Douglas fir trees to steal the presents from peoples homes. However, our hero is on the case and quickly puts an end to things.

Darkwing's Christmas episode is a lot of fun, especially as a fan of the show and can help me move past the gags that are quite common in the episodes. Fairly good as far as animation goes, it's an enjoyable inclusion in any viewing logs of holiday shows.

Holiday Hi-Jynx!

On the second day of December, my Christmas blog gave to me.......Pokemon. Huh. Well, on with the review!

Given how many shows often slip in holiday episodes, it's not fully surprising that Pokemon would follow in those footsteps. However at the same time there is just something a bit odd seeing Ash and the gang running around with Santa who apparently trains a Pokemon called "Jynx"

In watching this episode we find Ash during his break before the Pokemon League as he comes across a stranded Jynx. This starts up his story in things as Ash, Misty and Brock discover that Jynx is lost and belongs to Santa Claus. Taking pity on her...him..?....It? Sure, lets go with "It" Taking pity on It they decide to help Jynx get back to Santa at the North Pole. The manner in which they do this is.....unrealistic, but we are also talking about a show with a furry yellow rodent who shoots lightning from his ass. Getting on a raft, they use their Pokemon to drag them as far as possible before they meet up with Santa's assistant, a Lapras (Who apparently is Psychic).

On the other side of things, we also from time to time follow Team Rocket as Jessie swears revenge on the Jynx thinking it's Santa. It appears, with the help of a flashback, that the Jynx once took Jessie's doll that was broken to get it fixed but was unable to return it. Eventually both groups meet up at the North Pole and the battle begins as Team Rocket tries to steal all of the presents while Ash and co. give it their all to foil the villains.

For the most part this isn't really one of the better Pokemon episodes, and has nothing on the better Christmas specials/episodes that are out there. If anything I would rank it somewhere in the middle, near the lower end. As well, since Ash is on his break before the League starts up this episode doesn't make any attempts to further the storyline and acts mostly as filler.

Simpsons Roasting On An Open Fire

Kicking off the Holiday viewing today, with none other than the Simpsons.

In the episode we are abruptly introduced to the Simpsons as well as a small number of the enormous cast. As well, this is the first year of the series and the characters aren't quite as polished as they are today.

We follow the exploits of the family as they prepare for the Christmas season. Things however, do not go as planned when Homer's bonus is witheld by Mr. Burns and all the spending money goes towards removing Bart's tattoo.

Not wanting to ruin Christmas, Homer hides the fact he has no bonus this year and sets out to try and earn the money as a mall Santa. Sadly, this isn't enough and when he fails to make more by betting on dog racing he returns home to his family. All is better though in the end, when he brings along Santa's Little Helper, the canine who he bet on and finds that the dog brings everyone joy.

The one thing I enjoy about this episode is the fact that there isn't really a last minute miracle to give Homer the money. While the day is still saved in the Christmas fashion, it doesn't really show that material goods are needed but your family and a new pet.

Justice League: Justice On Trial

Justice League! The first of many DC/Marvel comics to be covered.

One thing about Justice League that I actually like more than say, Batman the Animated series, is that there is a wider abundance of characters. While Batman's show has a great variety of villains, Justice League expands that to include a lot of heroes as well. This will generally start as cameos but soon the roster will expand in the last two seasons.

So, tonight we look at the two parter "In Blackest Night." We start out on a distant planet, Abjuris 5 where there appears to be a trial going on. When the judges call for the guilty party to be present, we find that he has not yet been captured. Since the trial can't go on, they call in the Manhunters, large robots who they send to Earth to capture the criminal. Arriving on Earth, they waste little time in capturing the Green Lantern, John Stewart who hands himself over without a fight.

Sensing something isn't right, Superman, Hawkgirl, J'onn and Flash chase after their friend to help. The rest of the two parter largely follows the trial as Flash defends Green Lantern despite his protests that he and the others stay out of it. On the other side of things, we follow Superman and J'onn while they investigate the oddity of the crime.

It's soon revealed that the Manhunters have set up the hero to draw out the Lantern Corps leaders, enabling them to attack their home planet of Oa to seize the power it holds for themselves. However, the League is on the case and after chanting a catchy rhyme, Green Lantern puts an end to their plans.

Perhaps not one of the best two parter's largely due to how early into the season this aired. Due to this, characters aren't fully developed as they become later on and friendships are still growing. The animation is not quite as good as later seasons, but is still better than some shows released during the same time. Worth a watch for those interested in the series or characters.

Ultraman: Part One

*laughs uncontrollably*

.............................

Ok....ok I think I'm good now to review this. *Clears throat* Alright. Ultraman, perhaps one of the most cheesiest shows I have ever had the pleasure of watching.

Now, I don't know what the budget was like for this, or when it was made really. However, I do know that there is nothing more hilarious than watching two men in rubber suits try and do epic battles. Throw in a really fake Japanese city, a monster of the week plot and some silly scripts and you get Ultraman.

Episode 21: Break Through the Smoke

So, in this episode two of our main group, Fuji and Hoshino disappear while checking things out near an active volcano. Captain Murra decides to send in the rest of the Science Patrol to find and rescue them, however bigger problems arise when a powerful monster that is poisonous arrives and begins to attack! It's up to Ultraman to save the day, even though the monster out powers him.

Episode 22: Underground Destruction Work

Ide, a member of Science Patrol, becomes convinced that an agent dispatched from HQ isn't who she appears to be. He is soon proven correct when she reveals to be a member of a underground dwelling group of humanoids who wish to enslave all on Earth's surface.

Both episodes are pretty fun to watch, even if you spend more time laughing at the show itself than any jokes it has. The opening song and credits are pretty trippy and make me think that this is a product of the 60's or 70's. Most likely the latter. This show really is only for the most diehard fan, or those who just happen to love stuff like this.
